Description:

Currently, agri-food wastes have been used in some agricultural practices, such as landfills, animal feed, fertilizer supply, composting, incineration and anaerobic digestion. However, these materials have high amounts of carbohydrates, proteins, lipids, pigments, and bioactive compounds that could have a high added value after their recovery. In this sense, the valorization of agri-food wastes is today one of the main objectives of agroindustry sector due to the great potential of these compounds to provide economic, environmental, and social benefits.

This special issue encourages the submission of original research papers, review articles, and short communications focusing on the valorization of agri-food wastes. Potential topics include but are not limited to the following:
Recovery of carbohydrates, proteins, lipids, pigments, and bioactive compounds from agri-food wastes;
Potential applications of natural compounds recovered from agri-food wastes in the food sector;
Application of agri-food wastes to produce biosurfactants and single cell oils.
