Alina TROFIM, Cezara BIVOL, Oleg ȚURCANU Anticancer Activity of Cyanobacteria. Advanced Nano-Bio-Materials and Devices; 2023:7(4):724-731

Cyanobacteria have been considered a rich source of secondary metabolites with potential biotechnological applications, namely in the pharmacological field. Chemically diverse compounds were found to induce antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and cytotoxic activities. The potential of cyanobacteria as anticancer agents has been the most explored and several compounds have emerged as templates for the development of new anticancer drugs. In the present paper a compilation of  cyanobacterial compounds with anticancer properties is presented and a potential local strain Nostoc halophilum Hansgirg ex Geitler is introduced.
